The Ilocos Sur Festival, formerly known as the Kannawidan Festival, celebrates the founding anniversary of the province of Ilocos Sur and the separation of Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte. It's a festival celebrated through various events such as parades, trade fairs, concerts, etc. The Ilocos Festival is held every February. The celebration lasts about 3 weeks, with events taking place from the final days of January to the first week of February. Major events took place in the province's capital, Vigan City.
One of the festival's main attractions was the trade fair, where you will see various kinds of products from all over Ilocos Sur province, such as food, alcohol, furniture, plants, and many more. The products there show the significance of our Ilocano culture and how we preserve our local products and show them to visitors from around the country. The other attraction that caught people's eye was the food fair, where people could experience the unique taste of Ilocano dishes. With the various stalls and various food options set up there, you wouldn't run out of choices, and you get to enjoy eating.
Many events took place in Quirino Stadium, like concerts, games, cosplay, and pangents. One of the most anticipated events was the Illumina Fest, which started right after the cosplay event. The stadium was really packed with people who wanted to join in on the fun during the Illumina Fest. There were many famous singers and bands that played during this, and many people sang along with them. Although we left during the first half of the concert, it was still a pretty fun experience.
To sum it up, the Ilocos Sur Festival brings both locals and tourists a lively celebration of heritage and tradition. Over a period of three weeks, the festival features a diverse range of events such as concerts, trade fairs, and parades, all of which highlight the rich cultural diversity of Ilocos Sur. While the food fair tantalizes taste buds with unique Ilocano dishes, the trade fair showcases the diversity of local products. Concerts and sporting events at Quirino Stadium produce a thrilling atmosphere that leaves lasting memories.
